Kinder Tips
Important Kindergarten Tips
1. To help with the transition of lunchtime, we are asking that all kindergartners bring a lunch from home for the first week of school. You may deposit money into your child’s lunch account to be used after the first week of school. You are more than welcome to join your child for lunch, however, please wait two weeks to allow your child to get adjusted to the lunch routine. Please notify the cafeteria or your child’s teacher if you plan on eating lunch with your child after the first two weeks of school.
Money for your child’s lunch account can be sent to school in your child’s daily folder or added online. Please access lunch information from the Great Oaks web page. (Click on Resources - Parents - Food Services - Online Payments)
We strongly encourage students to make weekly or monthly deposits into their lunch account. Bringing money daily is discouraged because of loose change and possible lost money. Always send money in an envelope or baggie with your child’s name.
2. Please put first and last names on all take-off clothing, lunch boxes, and towels that are brought to school.
3. Always send a note in your child’s folder or call the school office (464-6850) if there is a change in your child’s usual departure from school.
4. Children arriving at school between 7:25-7:40 will wait outside their classroom sitting against the wall in the hallway. (We do allow students to come directly into the classroom on the first day of school only.) There is no supervision of students arriving at school before 7:25. Class begins promptly at 7:45. Students arriving after 7:45 will need to report to the school office for a tardy slip before coming to the classroom.
5. School is dismissed at 2:45. Students line up in the kindergarten hallway and are escorted by teachers to their dismissal areas. Please do not come to the classroom to pick up your child. Students will be waiting for pick up at the following areas:
6. Due to Federal Regulations every child must provide his/her own daily snack. Please provide a morning and an afternoon snack for your child. We are not allowed to give students food for snacks at any time. Healthy snacks such as pretzels, popcorn, graham crackers, animal crackers, goldfish, fresh fruit or veggies are favored. Students are encouraged to bring snacks that they can open independently. Please do not pack your child’s snack in his/her lunch kit. Instead, help your child find a place in his/her backpack for snacks! Also, we are not allowed to have “treats” such as cupcakes or cookies to celebrate your child’s birthday. Please talk to your teacher for other birthday options.
7. It is helpful if your child can independently tie shoes and to zip and button clothing. Please work on these skills throughout the year.
Thanks and we look forward to a great year! Please contact your teacher by e-mail with any questions or concerns
